Q. When will the Tobacco Use policy take effect?
A. The policy prohibiting any use of tobacco on college property goes into effect August 1, 2018.
Q. What is considered a tobacco product and prohibited by the policy?
A. Any form of tobacco such as cigar, cigarette, snuff, chewing tobacco, smokeless pouches, loose-leaf tobacco, pipes, hookah, e-cigarettes, e-cigars, and any electronic oral device not specifically approved by the U.S. Food and Drug administration for use in medical treatment.
Q. Who is affected by this policy?
A. All College and dental clinic employees, students, visitors, and contractors must comply with the policy.
Q. How is the policy going to be enforced?
A. Individuals can enforce the policy by politely letting anyone using tobacco know that the policy is in place. Tell them we do not allow the use of tobacco products of any kind on our campus and we appreciate their respect for our campus environment. Repeated abuse of the policy by staff and faculty will be addressed by the Provost and Human Resources; students who repeatedly abuse the policy will meet with the Dean of Academics.
Q. How is Hibbing Community College going to help employees and students who want to quit using tobacco?
A. The College will provide resources for students and employees to obtain cessation help. Brochures, pamphlets, and other cessation materials and resources will be found in Student Services, Employee mailroom, Commons, and other locations across the campus.
