Department Description
The Department of Physics and Astronomy merges the study of these two areas of science. Physics is the science of matter and energy and of the interactions between the two. Astronomy is the scientific study of the universe, especially of the motions, positions, sizes, composition and behavior of celestial objects.
Astronomers and Physicists are problem solvers who design and use powerful instruments to explore everything from the tiniest particle to the ends of the universe.
Transfer and Employment Opportunities
Career opportunities in astronomy and physics are astronomers, physicists, geophysicists, professors, pilots, teachers, and a great many engineers and programmers. Other career paths include opportunities in business administration, civil and environmental engineering, education, electrical engineering, energy engineering, international management, mechanical engineering, nuclear engineering, political science, psychology, public administration, scientific instrumentation, security management, systems management, and theology.
